It has been a mere five months since JJ Abrams released his lens flared Star Wars debut. The ambiguous trailer for the next episode, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was just released, tipping fans of the timeless series over the edge. As if they weren't hyped enough.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is set before the events of Episode IV: A New Hope. The trailer hasn’t given away much about its’ plot, however we can see that Rogue One follows young rebel Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones: The Theory of Everything, Amazing Spiderman 2), as she endeavours to steal the Empire’s plans for the first Death Star.

Interestingly, this is the first in the Star Wars series to diverge from the "lets just redo Episode IV" formula. The first trailer markets the film as more of a conventional war epic. Instead of the righteous Jedi; we follow the rebel army as they carry out acts of espionage and guerrilla warfare against the oppressive Empire.

Although, jedi fans out there shalt not fear. A collection of classic cameo’s have been implied for this new Star Wars instalment. The potential sighting of Darth Vader in the trailer means we cannot rule out lightsabers just yet. Not only that, but we are rumoured to see plenty of Bounty Hunters in the mix too. Not to mention the old fan favourite, Boba Fett.

This is Gareth Edwards' debut as a director in the series. Edwards was involved with the incredible sci-fi indie film Monsters in 2010 and the Godzilla reboot in 2014. It has come to light that Greig Fraser is also attached to the project, as cinematographer. For those unfamiliar with Fraser's work: he is the award winning cinematographer involved with films such as Killing Them Softly and Zero Dark Thirty. It's safe to say we are in good hands. Even those who were once torn, are consoled by the involvement of this talented team:

FEATURING: Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen and Forest Whitaker.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set for release on December 16th 2016.
