FILM: SUICIDE SQUAD GOES UNDER THE KNIFE

Suicide Squad is one of the most anticipated films of this summer. The blockbuster follows a collection of the most infamous super-villains, as they undertake a potentially fatal mission issued by the USA government. The film’s first trailer impressed fans and newcomers alike. With its foreboding take on DC’s beloved world, it shows us exactly why we need The Joker, Harley Quinn and all the other bad guys. Its bold, its aggressive and its exciting. Suicide Squad is sure to be a massive hit. Right?

Those hoping for a dark and faithful adaptation of the source material, may want to approach with caution. Just last week, news broke that Warner Brothers’ next massive entry in the DC universe, is undergoing serious reshoots.

The alleged reason? Well. They’re to make the film funnier, of course.

Director, David Ayer attempts to settle the riotous fans and sceptical critics, with a tweet rejecting allegations:

David Ayer rejects allegations against Suicide Squad reshoots

It seems the box office flop that was Batman Vs. Superman, has put the DC powerhouse on the offense. Critics were keen to suggest the sad outcome for this potential box office hit, may have been due to the film’s incessantly bleak tone.

The people with the power are doing everything they can to ensure that Suicide Squad will be exactly the opposite.

Jai Courtney, who plays super-villain Boomerang, opposes the rumours. He spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the alleged reshoots. Courtney claimed that they were not to make the film funnier; but to refine and perfect certain action scenes:

“There’s some additional action stuff that we’ve been doing, which is pretty dope.

Really, we’re just kind of adding in that sense. You can’t believe everything you read!”

The rumours outline a three week editing and re-calling schedule, giving plenty of time for directors and producers to alter the storyline significantly.

Whether or not these reshoots were implemented to lighten the tone of the movie, remains to be seen. There’s only one way to find out for yourself. Make sure you catch Suicide Squad in theatres at the end of summer. It explodes into UK and USA cinema, on August 5th 2016.

APPEARANCES INCLUDE: Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevinge.
